MONDO TRAVEL FEATURED GROUP ADVENTURE:

MAGICAL CITIES AND COLORFUL FESTIVALS IN INDIA'S GREAT THAR DESERT
TOURS OFFERED IN OCTOBER, NOVEMBER, AND DECEMBER OF 2011
The Great Thar Desert in India is a magical place. Brightly colored cities overlooked by immense fortresses and winding streets filled with exotic bazaars. Add to this the fascinating Indian festivals that happen during the winter months and we end up with an exciting and unforgettable experience.

During this time of year there will be the The Marwar Festival in the blue city of Jodhpur, The Bundi Utsav festival of music and fireworks in Bundi, and the reknowned Bikaner and Pushkar Camel Festivals - where the magnificent processions of bedecked camels are traded against the red sandstone backdrop of these exotic fort cities.

This trip will be run with our own private vehicle and with local guides, giving us access to the untouristed side of this remarkable part of India and a deeper experience than most visitors will ever have.

Perfect for photographers, single travelers, families, or anyone curious to see the real India in a unique, adventurous, and safe way.

TIMBUKTU, MALI - WEST AFRICA
and ALTERNATE: THE FESTIVAL IN THE DESERT
DECEMBER, 2010 (EXACT DATES TBA)
(FESTIVAL IN THE DESERT JANUARY 6-8, 2011)
CLOSED - WILL BE OFFERED AGAIN IN 2012!

This is probably the most challenging adventure we have offered so far. The road to Timbuktu takes us past lost cities, ancient wonderous architecture, and intriguing tribes as we wander along the southern edge of the great Sahara Desert.

This is a true old school adventure as we journey up the Niger river on an old steamer and on smaller local boats, ride in dilapidated "cinq cents quatre" (Peugeot 504s), hike through the cliffs to visit the Dogon people, and take a camel into the Sahara where the Taureg - the famous "blue people of the desert" - live.

Be warned - this is a real adventure. Difficult conditions, unpredicable situations, and few comforts. The way travel used to be. We are talking long hikes to meet colorful tribes, small boats on rivers with big hippos, and no ATM's, no cell phones, and very rare internet access.
TIGRIS AND EUPHRATES VALLEY, S EAST ANATOLIA
September 10th - September 20th, 2010
CLOSED - WILL BE OFFERED AGAIN IN 2012!
Turkey - but not the Turkey that most people see. This trip goes way out there to the Southeastern Anatolias, A fascinating area of Turkey that borders Syria, Iraq and Iran. This is the ancient land called Mesopotamia, between the Tigris and Euphrates River. We will see the holy cities of Job and Abraham, a landscape of extinct volcanoes, bizarre giant statues, and visit areas only recently opened to travelers.

Mud baths, hammams, coverered markets, ancient cities… and some really great food.
